Inter-University “Fintech - Blockchain Hackathon 2024” Concludes After Three Months of Competition
The Inter-University “Fintech - Blockchain Hackathon 2024” concluded after an intense three-month journey that tested creativity, analytical thinking, and technical expertise. Designed with three rigorous rounds, the competition sought to identify and honor the most outstanding young talents in the field of financial technology. From more than 300 registered students, only nine finalist teams advanced to the grand finale.
The first round – an online multiple-choice test – assessed participants’ foundational knowledge of Fintech and Blockchain. This essential qualifying stage allowed the organizers to evaluate each contestant’s grasp of key concepts, technologies, and global trends in financial innovation. The round drew strong participation from university students, many of whom invested significant effort in preparing for this initial challenge.
The second round – an online presentation – raised the bar even higher. Teams were required to demonstrate their research, analytical, and presentation abilities in a professional manner. For the Research Track, participants analyzed current trends, technologies, or business models within Fintech and Blockchain. Meanwhile, the Hackathon Track teams developed product ideas and detailed development plans. This round attracted over 500,000 online views, reflecting the competition’s growing influence among students and the broader tech-finance community.
The grand finale – the live final round – brought together the nine best teams, who presented their work before a panel of judges and an audience of more than 400 students. Teams in the Research Track delivered in-depth analyses of their chosen topics, while those in the Hackathon Track demonstrated functional prototypes and explained their technical solutions. Following their presentations, contestants engaged in Q&A sessions and debates with the judges to defend their viewpoints and approaches.
Dr. Nguyễn Anh Tuấn, Rector of HUFLIT, shared:
“The Fintech - Blockchain Hackathon is an academic initiative that encourages students to explore and develop interdisciplinary skills throughout their studies. It provides opportunities for students to be creative, enhance their learning experience, and turn research or ideas into real-world applications.”
At the conclusion of the event, the FTET Team from Foreign Trade University - Campus II won First Prize in the Research Track for their in-depth analysis on the application of blockchain in financial supply chains. The “What’s the Team Name?” Team from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages and Information Technology (HUFLIT) took home First Prize in the Hackathon Track with their digital asset management application, recognized for its practicality and user experience.
Beyond the competition itself, the three-month journey proved to be a valuable learning and growth experience for participants. Many students shared that they had gained not only technical and research skills but also improved teamwork, presentation, and critical thinking abilities — essential qualities for success in the modern digital economy.
